The first was that I already have an EGO lawn mower, and the batteries are cross-compatible. The second was that I could buy their chainsaw here on the Kenai; the local Home Depot carries EGO products (when they're not sold out). When I checked the rankings of electric chainsaws--and the reviews on the cs1800 in particular--I found plenty of evidence that it is a good product. I was able to share that information to convince Janelle as well.
So far, it has lived up to its reputation. Having not used a chainsaw before, I practiced on two trees that fell on their own in the past year. I have since felled and cut three beetle-killed trees. I've been amazed at how smoothly it cuts. In general, I can deal with one tree with one full battery charge (the new battery, not the four year old one from my lawnmower). Yesterday, I was able to deal with two trees using just one charge from both the new and old batteries, with a little bit of brush cutting with the smaller battery that's made for their less powerful tools. The batteries charge back up in about an hour and a half.
Meanwhile, The chain and bar have been easy to take apart and put back together once I practiced a bit. The controls are easy to operate--I like not having to tug it to get it to start. And while I should probably get another new battery (which is a hefty cost), I'm happy to not have to deal with mixing gas and oil.
I will acknowledge that this tool works well for me due to the diameters of the tree trunks and types of trees on my property. If I had to deal with thicker trunks or harder wood, I would probably have purchased a gas-powered chainsaw instead. However, I think that I went with the best option for my needs.
