Meanwhile, everything is set for a strike tomorrow. The picket captains and their schools have been amazing! Should we have to strike tomorrow, we are certainly ready. While I would much rather be in my classroom tomorrow, I am so proud of how our staff has rallied together, and how our community has rallied behind us.
Should our bargaining teams come to agreement tonight about the contract, they will need to also figure out how to deal with school tomorrow considering the notices that the district has sent to the public. I've been telling my students to view this event like there was a blizzard in the forecast. They should do their homework anyway, that way it's either ready if we are back to school tomorrow (and I don't know what the odds of are that) or not hanging over their heads should they not have to come in.
Personally, I'm still hoping to see them tomorrow, but I feel we are ready should my optimism be misplaced.
[note: We received a call at 3:30 a.m. telling us that the teams had come to an agreement over an hour before. The district then sent out calls to everyone in the district at 6 a.m. that the cancellation was cancelled and that we would start school on a two-hour delay. Needless to say, the classes were pretty sparse.]
