I then ate and exercised. I wanted to skip exercising, but as it's the only time that I was able to this week, I figured that I should. Continuing to do laundry, I also checked on the cabin as our first guest in over a month was going to arrive this evening (and did so safely). Katrina and Connor worked on breaking up the packed snow and ice around the cabin's parking area--and did a pretty good job at that. Meanwhile, Trevor and I loaded the trash for a dump run.
Once back, I only had a short amount of time before I had to leave for the school for a "prom work session" where we made decorations for our upcoming Prom by the Pier. It's only a short three weeks away. After three and a half hours there, I then headed to Safeway to pick up Chinese food for our Chatty Catholics get-together. I was double-booked this evening, so I was only able to stay there (and eat) for about fifteen minutes before heading out to the Soldotna Sports Center for the House Finance Committee's public hearing on the budget.
I stayed for the entire three hours and change, and even testified to the importance of funding education as well as possible sources of revenue. I was impressed by the turnout as well as the civility. There was no shouting or booing. Instead, those present simply clapped for those testimonies with which they agreed. I felt quite hopeful as the vast majority of those in attendance seemed to support finding means other than devastating cuts to necessary programs as ways to deal with our state's budget.
This was a productive day.
