This is my feeling for nearly all of the DC movies, especially in the Man of Steel cinematic universe. The notable exception is the Christopher Nolan Batman trilogy (with the second movie, The Dark Knight, being one of my all time favorite movies, let alone superhero movies). I've still found them entertaining, but I would rank nearly every one of them lower than any of the Marvel movies in the MCU and even in the Fox X-Men holdings. As I think about it, I'm not sure where I'd place them with the Fantastic Four movies as they suffer from similar problems.
I wonder if part of the issue is the heroes themselves. Even though Superman is my all-time favorite superhero, he and most of his DC companions are so much larger than life that they are often not relatable. Meanwhile, Marvel superheroes tend to be much more human--even the talking animals. Their problems are more relatable. Even Thor, for all of his power, is portrayed in ways that make me connect with him (although his first two movies are more towards the bottom of my rankings).
I hope that Marvel (especially the MCU) can keep its positive trend going. However, I would also like to see DC find its way too. I love the DC characters and would like to have see them in movies that due them justice (Now that I read this again, I realize that there might be a Justice League pun in there, but I'll let it lie).
