However, I often forget just how daunting and cumbersome the rules that govern this game can be. While I've had decades to play various versions of the game and to internalize the minutiae that govern its systems, newcomers to the game (and even people who play casually) can get easily overwhelmed by the complexity.
I have tried playing systems that are much more loose with their rules, hoping that they would let me get to the heart of the characters and story. Unfortunately, those games have usually ended quickly with the players either not feeling a sense of accomplishment or feeling that the GM (person in charge of the game) is arbitrarily making decisions based solely on personal preference.
Basically, although I know it takes some getting used to, I really enjoy the system that I use. It allows for a good story that doesn't always go the way I would expect.
