Well, it was not an epic failure. Knowing that I will be at a conference for the middle three days of the week, I decided that I would work more on setting up my writing space than anything else.
I have quickly found that I need to find a quieter and more secluded area or reacquire my ability to ignore the many disturbances around me. As I am sitting here, all three of my sons have decided to rediscover the game systems on the TV that sits next to my desk. Meanwhile, my wife is watching one of her art lessons on her computer at the desk behind me. I have tried using headphones, but I found that my ears do not like my current headphones nor any type of ear buds. While I am distracted by the noise, I know enough about how my brain works that I would probably end up complaining about silence too.
I did manage to accomplish a few things:
I loaded Microsoft Office on my desktop computer. This task is a bit more complicated than normal because I have limited power connectors on this computer and more than one hard drive for different purposes. I had to disconnect a hard drive (making certain it wasn't the one where Office needed to go), connect the DVD drive, install the software, disconnect the DVD drive, and reconnect the hard drive. My brother purchased the tower where my computer's components run, and he chose a good one that's easy to use so the installation did not take as much time as I feared.
I wrote a letter of recommendation and emailed it for proofreading.
I finally downloaded the pictures of my church's stained-glass windows, organized and renamed them.
And I started setting up the basis for my thoughts and reflections on the Rosary (including uploading the above-mentioned pictures) that I plan on posting to this site.
I suppose today wasn't a complete waste after all.
