This has also been the case for my guitar playing. I am still stuck on a limited number of chords and strum/pick patterns. I only know those because of a friend of mine who took the time to help me learn them. I was useless when trying to learn them from a book or from videos. It took someone guiding me directly for me to make any progress at all. Without that guidance now, I'm fairly stuck at the level of playing that I've maintained for the past ten years.
This bleeds into other areas of my life. I know that I can accomplish nearly anything that I set my mind to, as long as I know what to do and how to do it. I just need guidance. Maybe that's all anyone is looking for in life. Maybe this is what sets aside the truly exceptional: they don't wait for guidance, but carve a path for themselves. Perhaps that's what I need to do as well ... if only I knew how to go about doing that ...
On an unrelated note, it's December 15th and it's raining, not snowing. I don't know if I can fully express just how depressed that makes me.
