This was the case yesterday, as I posted on two friends' and one family member's posts. One of the friend's posts was a response to something that I had posted, so it was fair game, but I then branched out and posted on other people's pages. All of my posts were met with responses that either questioned or criticized them. I then felt the need to clarify further, which led to more responses and further re-clarifications. At one point, I ended in name-calling (followed by me deleting that post and apologizing). The fact that the other person started it is no excuse.
I spent a good portion of yesterday, and now today, thinking about the topics, researching them, reading articles posted by other people who only proved my original post and having made no positive effect. I need to stop.
I did have one positive, however small. My browsing today (in response to yesterday's posts) helped me connect (albeit briefly) with a group of students whom I taught over a decade ago. It's those connections that keep me checking Facebook. I just need to ignore the others.
