A colleague and I were bemoaning our aches and pains this morning and the comment was made that we should warn our students that the choices they make have these kinds of consequences. We quickly realized that we had been told such advice ourselves when we were their age. Obviously, we paid about as much attention as our students (although, I do have former students who sometimes post about things they weren't taught in school that I distinctly remember teaching them, so maybe they paid a bit less attention).
Come to think of it, I probably still don't listen to my elders as much as I probably should.
