For the most part, I am for it. I believe that SoPrep has done a great job of building a community with each freshman class and has helped to identify and guide students down their individual learning paths. However, I am concerned about the lack of elective offerings for freshmen should SoPrep lose more staff due to declining enrollment--which is projected to happen next year even without considering the governor's proposed cuts. Although I am slightly concerned about the packed halls and issues which can arise from with freshmen and seniors in the same building, I believe that having the freshmen in the building will build a strong sense of community for our school system as a whole. Several plans are being prepared to allow for this community building, while still keeping the level of care that has been established at SoPrep.
This merger is not a definite, but it looks like we are moving in that direction. Those who want to give their input or learn more information should go to the meeting this Thursday (April 11, 2019) at 6pm in the SoHi auditorium as well as take the survey that was sent by the district this week.
