Going in, I had been concerned about a franchise that was already becoming a bit too action-focused being directed by a director known for action movies. While there was still plenty of action, the humor, heart, and intelligence came through too. They also did amazing work on the science-fiction settings, creating scenes that I could before only imagine.
That's not to say that the movie was not without its problems. This movie timeline has yet to find an antagonist that doesn't make me say, "Wait ... what? Really?" Even V'ger made more sense to me, and I really don't care for the first Star Trek movie (original cast).
Still, in my opinion, the true rating of a movie is whether I would want to see it again, and I could watch this one tomorrow.
