Jesus gives us one final commandment: To love one another. It seems so simple, but I so often find myself falling short of this. It is easy to love those who have loved us or to love those whom we admire, but quite a different thing to do so for those who rage against us, who tear down others, or who work in opposition to those things that we hold most dear.
This is the true challenge of Christianity: to love despite ourselves. So we are clear, this does not mean simply accepting all ideas as equal, nor rolling over on our principles, nor not defending ourselves or our beliefs. It does mean that we should work at trying to make the world a better place by both our words and our example, and that we should strive to understand even those with whom we disagree. That which we truly understand we cannot help but love (I believe this idea is in the novel Ender's Game).
