I was reminded of a Christian comedian whose act I saw back in high school. He also likened our souls and the media that we consume with food. He said that we are what we eat; if you eat fat, greasy food, you become a fat, greasy dude.
Are we consuming the "food" that is good for our souls? If we surround ourselves with hatred and prejudice, aren't we more likely to develop hatred and prejudices ourselves? While we should not isolate ourselves from the world, we should (as the priest today recommended) "read the labels" of what we consume and think about what our spread because of it. While most of his focus was on cursing, I think that this can apply to many areas of my life.
I need to be careful not just in what I expose myself to, but what I share with others as well.
