It seems a bit ironic that I posted that recently rediscovered prayer yesterday as today's Gospel deals specifically with Thomas's doubt and our belief without having touched Jesus's hands and side. More than that, today is also Divine Mercy Sunday. Jesus expresses His ultimate love not just through His sacrifice, but through His absolute mercy. No matter how unworthy of His mercy and His love that we might believe that we are, He gives them both to us anyway. No one is beyond redemption.
The first reading from Acts also shows that the early Church was about an equitable distribution of goods. The disciples gathered all of their wealth and distributed it to those who were in need. More than any other aspect of the Church, I believe that it is this idea that allowed it to survive through the centuries of murderous persecutions that it faced in its infancy. I also believe that it is this aspect of the early Church that we should try to emulate again.
