Today we forwent traveling to Seward for their rather under-prepared meet and had a duel with Kenai's track team. This meant more kids getting to compete in more events and getting home a LOT sooner. It also had us hosting at the SoHi track. I originally didn't have a specific role, but was filling holes as needed. As such, I was "in charge" of setting up the hurdles, led the team for their warm-ups, got to be a lane timer in two races, spent most of my time measuring discus throws, and even spent some time perfecting my sand-raking skills at the triple-jump.
Each meet has taught me more and more about track. There are still a number of mysteries that I still have not uncovered (as well as a number of mysteries I probably don't even know about). I know that my appreciation for this year's summer Olympics will certainly be greater during the track and field section than it has been before.
