However, I believe that most people (and certainly everyone I know) who voted for him are not racist, misogynistic, homophobic, or stupid. They were voting against a corrupt system that Clinton seemed to represent. They were voting against the declining middle class. They were voting for a businessman. They were voting for a maverick.
Remember that social media gives you the information that it thinks you will like, not what might be true. Thus supporters of any politician primarily see articles and posts that show their candidate in the best light and the other candidate in the worst light. As I am friends with supporters of both candidates (and third-party candidates, and no candidates), I have been able to see both positive spins and hateful stuff for both major candidates (and plenty for the major third party candidates as well).
For those of you who are in fear because of Trump's election, realize that there have been an equal amount living in fear these past eight years under an Obama presidency. You might not agree with their lifestyle or beliefs, but they might not agree with yours either. The only way we move forward rather than repeating this cycle of hatred (and claims of "he's not my president") is to truly examine the issues raised by both sides and not dismiss them out of hand.
