Yesterday, Rowen told me that I didn't "play fair" with his name. I asked him what he meant, and he told me that his name sounds like "Row in" but we used an "e" to spell it. I chuckled and told him that his name is "Row en," the way that it is spelled, but that it can sound like "Row in" when it is said quickly.
I clearly blew his mind. He sat back with a look of complete shock on his face, like everything he ever knew was now a lie. After a long moment, he seemed to come to a conclusion, looked back up with me with as much seriousness as a seven year-old can muster, and said, "I like Rowin better. I'm going to change it when I grow up."
I told him that it will be up to him, but that I really liked the name "Rowen." He then said that he might be willing to keep it ... but he'd have to think about it.
