The good news is that my prescription didn't change (it hasn't changed for almost two decades). This means that with my glasses, I have 20/15 vision (yet terrible vision without them). That means I'm closer to being Superman with my glasses on than when they're off. I also am not showing any signs diabetic retinopathy. They took some pictures for future comparison.
The bad news is that I am already starting to develop cataracts and am showing signs a macular dystrophy. Both can be side effects of diabetes and both can be slowed through diet and proper eye protection. At this point, considering my corrected 20/15 vision, these issues do not seem to be affecting me, but they both require watching (and eating more green vegetables).
My eyes are still rather dilated even several hours after my appointment, leaving my vision look like J.J. Abrams directed this latest episode of my life. It made driving back look like something out of a science fiction movie too ...
