From the first of its six episodes, this show pulled me in with its interesting characters, charismatic lead, and insight into Pakistani-American culture. The show is also filled with visual details that are an absolute delight. From the various flashing title cards (it's worth watching a YouTube video or two that shows the title sequence card by card) to the cartoon overlays representing Kamara's imagination to the practical effects used to show text conversations--there is an amazing level of production and post-production design built into this show.
Sure the bad guys are rather cartoony and unbelievable (as are some of the ways they are dealt with), but this show was (for me) less about the Marvel action than it was about a young woman dealing with her newly discovered superpowers in a believable way. I also deeply appreciated the layers of dimension given to her family. I would certainly like to see more of them in the future.
