Unfortunately, none of our team made it to the final rounds of their events. Some of it was nerves; some of it was exhaustion. Sleeping in a cold classroom is not as conducive to a good nights sleep as one might think.
Still, our team was able to cheer on some of the friends that they made on the other teams. We also had the opportunity to see some amazing performances. I’m utterly astounded at some of the quality performances that I witnessed, particularly in the final rounds.
I’m really indebted to the Homer team, coach, and chaperones for this trip as well as for taking us under their wing this entire season.
Note: the Aurora even gave us a send off as we headed back home. The bus windows were covered in road grime, so a number of the students pulled open their windows, making a cold—if beautiful—drive as the bus heater had difficulty keeping up even after the windows were shut again.
