The primary events in my life this past year have been all high points. One of the biggest was Katrina's marriage to Peter in June. Not only did we add a new family member and get to dress up for the occasion, but we spent several weeks reconnecting with family and friends in Michigan before and after the event. This included introducing my sons to the joys of Cedar Point.
I then returned to the Lower 48 at the end of August for my brother's wedding. This time, I gained a sister (in-law) and got a chance to meet her family. This time Katrina was my only child with me. Although a substantially shorter trip, it was packed with activity.
August also saw the end of my coursework for my doctorate. Although I am still slowly (agonizingly) working on my dissertation, it was nice to reach that milestone. Hopefully, I can finish the rest before too long.
During this year, I have also become a bit more established at Soldotna High School, having completed my first year there and started my second. I feel like I've become closer to my colleagues and am starting to fit in a bit better. I have also been teaching for over 20 years, another milestone that seemed so far away not that long ago.
I met my resolution point goal, but not by as much as in previous years. I'm five pounds lighter than I was a year ago, but as that was ten pounds up from the year before, it doesn't feel like much of an accomplishment. I managed to write a blog entry (of varying length and quality) for every day of the year, but my writing was otherwise mostly limited to work and school. I also did not play a single game of D&D, which is the first year that has been true since I started playing in 1989 [Wow!]. I also turned 45.
I think that it was a good year.
