The airport here in Detroit is so different than my memory. It's basically a large mall. Stores with outrageous prices line this terminal. It even has a small train to take people from one end to the other. There are moving sidewalks EVERYWHERE and charging stations (both with normal outlets and with USB ports) with every set of seats.
I'm glad that people around me knew how to handle security so I could follow their lead without asking stupid questions or having to be directed by the TSA agents. I was not happy to be traveling alone as I couldn't just pick up and get something or go to the bathroom without taking all of my stuff with me. It also means that I was reliant on my iPhone for entertainment (primarily podcasts).
I will need to post more later, but I had a good (if cramped) flight next to two SLC natives who gave me a number of suggestions for dining and sights. I registered at the convention center and met a few other first years.
