In his homily today, our pastor noted that this is an issue that faces most Christians today--learning how to recognize God's voice. Sometimes, we are so eager to do so that we misattribute other voices for God's. People might put their faith into political causes, certain media sources, or even charismatic people rather than God's actual Word.
However, our pastor also noted that God's voice should be easy to recognize. In short, if the message is about love (not romantic love, but the love involved in trying to make life better for others) then it is from God. If the voice is about hatred, division, or alienation, it is not from God.
I need to examine this in my own life. Am I listening to God's voice or just the voices that I already agree with? When I speak, am I allowing God to speak through me, or am I putting my own agenda in place of His message?
