I refer to this house as "Tower house" (initially, I tried to call it the Burrow as it slightly resembles the Weasleys' home from the Harry Potter series, but the name was causing too much confusion). Standing three stories tall on a hill near a bend in the Kenai River on the east side of Sterling, this house has a fantastic view of the forested valley that it overlooks as well as the Kenai Mountains in the not-so-distant distance.
One thing that I have wanted in a house is a view of mountains. Unfortunately, homes with a view often have a higher price associated with them as well. This one, although a great deal of work has been done to it in the past few years, still has work that needs to be done (although we won't know the extent until we actually get to see it this Saturday) which is one of the only reasons its price is even in our reach. A second cost is that it is farther away from Soldotna (and thus Janelle's and my places of employment, as well as shopping, church, etc.), even farther than our current place of residence. Finally, the kitchen and bedrooms are all on the upper levels of the house, meaning that each day would require using lots of stairs.
I think ... I hope ... I pray ... that it's worth it. The house has been occupying my thoughts so much these past few nights that I've not been able to fall asleep for hours after my head has hit the pillow. Granted, we still need to see this house in person (not to mention deal with our house back in Michigan), but I've wondered if it's "the one" since I saw its listing pop onto my screen.
Heavy stair use and a few extra minutes to my drive seem like small prices to pay to wake up to mountains every morning ... well, every clear morning.
I've included its listing on Zillow for those who are curious: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/37263-Samsel-Rd-Sterling-AK-99672/2113520169_zpid/
