I am continually amazed at how easily deceived so many people are by this kind of tactic. By calling net neutrality "government regulation," corporations have once again duped the very people who are most negatively impacted by corporate policy to unwittingly support that same policy. They play on people's fears of the government to get public opinion to ignore the real monsters in our nation. Big business has done this time and again ever since the beginnings of the industrial revolution.
Let me say this clearly: Government regulation (in moderation) of business is good. Often, it is the only thing stopping evil (not to mention amoral) policies from trampling on the rights of citizens (at the least), harming them in some way, and sometimes even causing their deaths. Without regulation we would still have slavery, child labor, only two days off a year (seriously), 12 hour days as the norm, hazardous working conditions, unstopped pollution and no worker's compensation.
Before someone spews some corporate line about laissez faire being in the best interest for everyone, that person needs to investigate the story of the Radium Girls. Maybe then we can talk.
