It happened in those days that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee
and was baptized in the Jordan by John.
On coming up out of the water he saw the heavens being torn open
and the Spirit, like a dove, descending upon him.
And a voice came from the heavens,
“You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.”
That last line ... what son, what child, could ask for more from a parent? We spend so much of our lives seeking the approval of our parents. Here, Jesus's heavenly parent grants that approval, starting Jesus's ministry with an amazing vote of confidence. I hope that I remember to encourage my children in such a manner. For they are my beloved, and with them I am well pleased (well ... mostly).
