Connor's events were later in the day (all the way to the last event of the day), so Janelle and I left for Homer at around 10AM and stopped by the Taste of Homer celebration of food trucks before going to the track. The food was excellent and fueled us for watching the events. Connor ran in the unified 4x100m relay (where he was paired with a student who has intensive needs), the 400m (where he finally broke the minute barrier with a personal best of 59.60 seconds), and the 4x400m relay (with his team making third place despite a clerical error that originally led to another team getting his team's medals).
I decided to wear shorts to the meet and was grateful for that decision. The weather was absolutely gorgeous with the sun warming us enough that I spent an hour or two in just my t-shirt and shorts. The cool wind that picked up later did make me grateful that we brought a blanket to place over our legs, but even then I often had to remove myself from it rather than get overheated.
It was nice to be outside today even if I didn't really do much. I had good conversations with multiple people whom I saw at the meet, and I cheered on the students I knew (and some whom I didn't) throughout the events. All told, I had a good time even though I feel like I got ever so slightly sun burned.
