Thankfully, some of that experience comes from actually designing and teaching the curriculum for a British literature class during my time at Colon. At Lincoln, I think that I only had one semester of teaching British literature before the administration pulled a scheduling change which readjusted what I was teaching (not my only mid-school-year switch in my time as a teacher). That said, these experiences were quite a while ago. I am going to need to do some serious reading to refresh my mind.
Still, just perusing through the book and the selections it has available is like visiting with old friends. These are the writers and words that truly began my love affair with the English language. From the alliteration and kennings of Beowulf, to the humor of Chaucer, to the wit of Pope and Swift, to the lyricality of Wordsworth and Longfellow, to the description of Dickens, to the pure genius that is Shakespeare, these are journeys that I am ready to take again.
It should be an interesting year.
