For those who do not know, Juneau is in the southeastern "corner" of the state and is only accessible by boat (although the ferry system's budget has been under fire) and plane. It's not like flying there is easy either. Although Alaska gives us an extra "free" check in bag for trips to Juneau, the flights are not convenient. We were lucky to get a "direct" flight from Anchorage to Juneau and back. However, that still meant that we had to get to Anchorage (and back). Others had to make two extra stops on their journey (and weren't allowed to leave the plane at either stop).
As most of the population of Alaska lives on the road system, it is unconscionable (What? I spelled that right on the first try? It doesn't look right. ... I double-checked; it's right. How odd.) to have the capital in such a remote location.
Sure, the economy of Juneau will not be as great after the capital moves. However this is a move that will not only make the government more accessible (and perhaps accountable), but it will save a great deal of money in travel expenses and per diems when it comes to actually running the government. Keeping the capital in Juneau for historic or nostalgic reasons is not worth the inconvenience or the cost. It may have saved time when communicating with the Lower 48 in the past, but that is no longer an issue.
This is a change that needs to happen.
