In Octoberfest fashion, the meal consisted of pork, bratwurst, sauerkraut (one with bacon, the other with horseradish and 1000 island dressing--I took both), mashed potatoes with gravy, and coleslaw. There were a wide variety of desserts, but my eye was on the lemon meringue pie. We had watched the Great British Bake Off during lunch, and the contestants had to make lemon meringue pies for their technical challenge. I immediately had a craving for a slice (or more), so it was providence that it was one of the available desserts.
There wasn't really anything on the silent auction that Janelle and I wanted, and some of the normal auction pieces jumped in bidding too quickly for us. However, I did manage to win a bid on some of the leftovers from the night's meal as well as one for decorated, preferential seating at Christmas and Easter masses. Now, as I already have a reserved seat for those masses since I'm in the choir, there was a little bit of a concern about me getting any value for it. However, I pointed out that part of the bid included decorations, and that I was happily paying to have the choir area decorated for those two events. I will admit that I also received a little joy from knowing that the confirmation class (which includes Connor) was going to do the decorating.
It was a pleasant evening that I got to spend with my beautiful date.
