We set up the portable speaker as normal, got out the well-worn deck of cards, put down a mat for the push-ups and sit-ups, divided into teams (me and Rowen on one, Connor on the other), started the timer and got to work. One team ran the circuit while the other one did the number and type of exercise indicated by each card as we made our way through the deck. Face cards are 10 reps, aces are 15, and all others are the number showing. Meanwhile, spades indicate push-ups, clubs are sit-ups, diamonds are squats, and hearts were lunges (although Connor forgot and decided to do V-ups instead). Once the circuit was run, the we switched rolls. Rowen did the exercises that I did. (For those who know about the Deck of Death, this deck does not have Jokers, and I'm not going to tear up my legs or clothes on the cement or driveway trying to do burpees anway).
I noticed a few things. First, it was probably still a bit too cold to be running around in shorts and a t-shirt. My magnetic watchband was quite cold by the end, as was I due to the breeze. Also, not using the rings also seemed to cut our time down by making the exercise easier, although my heart rate was still up there by the end. Finally, doing the four circuits seemed to be closer to a 400 meter run; the way we were doing it before had people going through several more cards.
Despite being a little chilled, it was nice to exercise outside again.
