That's nothing compared to the disappointment I've felt concerning next year's funding for education. Not only was the increase that had been passed by the legislature vetoed and that veto failed to be overridden by the legislature, but federal funds that were supposed to be given to our district not only didn't make it, but are now being used by our governor in a game of political chicken with the federal government. It's a high stakes game that he's playing, hoping to garner national attention from like-minded politicians who want to destroy public education. At stake are now hundreds of millions of dollars in federal funding that the government is saying cannot be entrusted to our state due to its mismanagement of the previous funds.
However, the worst disappointment today came from a particularly vile post that outright indicated that transgender people should be lynched. Not only do people seem to think this sort of terror tactic is acceptable--as indicated by the "likes" and comments of support--but they somehow believe that they are defenders of Christian values. This sort of violent rhetoric has been on the rise due to Trump and his sycophantic ilk. It's the same sort of behavior that the KKK used in its racist reign of terror--one that was also claimed to hold to Christian values.
Despite my current disappointments, I still hold out hope that these things can change.
