While Trevor stayed home with the dogs, Janelle and I took our younger sons to the mountain. Janelle and Rowen signed up for downhill skiing lessons while Connor and I signed up for snowboarding. This was my first, and likely only, time that I have snowboarded on an actual snowboard. I met the only goal that I set for myself: to learn how to stop without falling.
Unfortunately, the process involved a great deal of falling to get to that point. To be clear, I had a great deal of fun. Sadly, my body is not as happy with the experience as I am from an emotional and mental point of view. Connor, who was doing much better than me, said that he wants to try the downhill skiing the next time we visit.
There will be a next time. I look forward to trying again (probably skiing) at some point in the future. However, the experience made all of us much more interested in cross-country skiing as a closer and more frequent activity. This might have given us the push we needed to start up an popular activity where we live.
I wish I had that "push" a bit earlier in the season, though.
