I've mentioned before how amazing the view is from my school's library, but it got even better today. For a little while, the clouds parted and the sun shone through, lighting the trees and ground. I was supervising my students as they took their first quarterly district writing assessment, when I noticed that a bald eagle was perched on the top of a tree in the nearby forest. I made a remark about this and a couple of my students informed me that there was a nest nearby (actually just the next tree over) and that they have seen as many as seven eagles in the trees while they've been there. Another student informed me that seeing the eagle meant that it wasn't raining (it can often rain with the sun out here) as the majestic birds hate getting wet and will usually just stay in their nests in poor weather.
Basically, I had a day that filled me with both contentment and wonder.
