- Trevor earned his driver's license. Since then, he has appreciated the freedom of getting to drive to and from work and has been improving in his confidence as well as his driving skills.
- I watched the fantastic performances in this year's school musical: The Wizard of Oz.
- I withdrew my DDF team from the December competition in Anchorage due to a lack of team members.
- We finished decorating for Christmas. The winning touch is the use of the Wi-Fi connected outlets rather than a series of individual timers.
- We started a family subscription for Duolingo. Janelle, Connor, Rowen, and I are working on learning Japanese prior to our trip in 2025.
- I saw some powerful student presentations at a school board meeting.
- I also deeply enjoyed our high school music program's Christmas concert.
- My eldest child turned 30 years old.
- We started winter break (and ended the first semester) earlier than I have ever done so before in my life (12/15).
- We celebrated Trevor's birthday by watching Dune, having shepherd's pie for dinner, and a Swiss roll for a birthday cake--all at his request.
- We used two vehicles to deal with travel to and from the Anchorage airport as we picked up Alex, Katrina, Peter, Irene, Alistair, and Julian for their nine-day visit.
- I enjoyed watching the Barbie movie. There is an extraordinary level of detail at every level in that movie: from the concept, to the writing, to the performances and direction, to the fantastic production design, to the amazing music--everything was done with an incredible amount of dedication and care. I don't know how it will stand up over time because it is extremely rooted in our current moment. I certainly hope that we will be able to look back upon it and realize how far we have grown.
- I celebrated entering into my 6th decade, having completed 50 successful orbits of the sun.
- The pass was closed most of Christmas Eve due to an unplanned avalanche.
- Christmas was wonderful!
- I started to get a cold (from which I just now seem to be recovering).
- I completed The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
- We returned to a quiet house after taking our guests back to Anchorage for their flights.
- For the final day of the year, we plan on having our annual get-together with our close friends: Rob and Shawna.
If all goes to plan tomorrow, I will not have time to write a full post, let alone a reflective one about the past month. Thus, I decided to write it a day early. I'll have to edit in any updates if anything unexpected happens tomorrow. Here are the highlights from the past month:
