I have to admit to being underwhelmed in regards to the vaccine. It would have been nice if it worked like the vaccines in movies. I had hoped that it would provide a greater immunity and a lower risk of transmission than it has. Still, it reduces the chance of transmission and hospitalization by over 90% and death from this disease by even more.
While Rowen was not excited about getting another shot, he said that he was glad he got the vaccine. He has been concerned that he might unknowingly spread the disease to someone who would then have a family member get sick from them and possibly die. While I reminded him that there still is a chance that he could still spread COVID-19, he told me that he was still glad because it was a lower chance and could save someone's life. He said that he still plans to wear the mask while in school until the community has less of a risk.
As a parent, it makes me proud to find that my child is willing to set aside his fears and put the safety of others above his own discomfort.
