This is unlike the many other elements in our life that promise us happiness or protection. All such promises are temporary at best. Many are motivated by greed and do not bring us what was promised.
I find myself guilty of these false promises from time to time. I would like to protect my children and my students from the awful parts of the world. I would like to guarantee their happiness. Unfortunately, as much as I would like to solve their problems, I have limited abilities to do so. Worse, my own selfish desires often get in the way.
Thankfully, Jesus is better at His job than I am.
