Although I grilled hot dogs for dinner and Janelle and I wore our matching USA T-shirts, there was little else that I did in line with celebrating the approval of our nation's Declaration of Independence. We didn't watch Independence Day, Hamilton, or Live Free or Die Hard (the last one being my favorite of the three). I'm not a fan of parades and my enthusiasm for fireworks has severely diminished over the years. Even if I wanted to see either, we had another day of on-again-off-again showers and the lack of darkness in the evening makes fireworks more of a New Year's thing up here.
Still, I believe that despite its flaws, the United States of America is the greatest nation that the world has ever seen. Despite reaching new heights year after year, I believe that it has the potential to be even greater. We need to stay true to the great ideals listed in our Declaration's Preamble: We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all [people] are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.
Let's make America greater than it's ever been.
