Director Colin Trevorrow successfully tapped into the nostalgia craze that is dominating many movies by not only bringing back three of the main characters for the original movie, but having multiple callbacks to it (even the Barbasol can makes an appearance--which, with BioSyn itself, makes a video game part of the series' canon). I was, however, a little surprised that there was no connections made to the 2nd and 3rd Jurassic Park movies, especially with characters pulled from the other two Jurassic World movies and the introduction of a new main character. Still, it was nice to see Doctors Sattler, Grant, and Malcom not only make cameos, but play significant roles in the overall movie.
Of course, as a Jurassic World movie, one needs to be ready to suspend all kinds of disbelief. For me, the hardest part to swallow was that the main concern was a prehistoric bug rather than a world full of human-hunting dinosaurs--who are apparently not as bothered by the cold as my earlier obsession with dinosaurs had led me to believe. That said, I felt that the dinosaurs were more threatening in this movie than they had been since the original--Rowen agreed by saying that this was the scariest of the movies since the first one.
While none of the sequels have come anywhere close to the original movie (even though I really like the second Jurassic Park), this movie did better job of connecting everything together than any of the other sequels. Although, I hope that it is the last in this line of films, I would still like to watch it again. Basically, it's a fun movie full of plot holes and dinosaurs that goes well with popcorn.
