All the results are not official until next week, the unofficial results turned out better than I had dared to hope. All three of the candidates whom I personally know won their respective races (although I could not vote for any of them). Meanwhile, the Soldotna Field House (an indoor activity center with a variety of courts, a field, and an elevated track) was finally approved (again, as it was a city issue, I could not vote for it). The attempt to increase the size of the Borough Assembly and the School Board failed. However, my favorite part is that the bonds for the Central Emergency Services and School Improvement both passed.
That last one was of particular interest to me as many of our schools are in need of substantial repair which the regular school budgets cannot afford. Like many elements of infrastructure around our nation, our schools have passed their "sell by" dates. Decades of underfunding have not helped the problems. This bond will not solve all of the building issues we have in the district, but it's a good step in the right direction.
