The largest piece of news is that our school district is closing down for at least a week. I don’t have specifics other than there will not be school for students this next week. I do not know if I will still be going in to work or if we will be offering classes via online applications. Currently, it looks like the students are getting an extended break while faculty will be working on ways to get content to students should the school need to remain closed for a longer period of time. As this is unprecedented in my 20+ years as an educator, I am not at all certain what will happen or what its effects might be. However, I am not worried as I know that we have an exceptional staff of dedicated educators who can deal with challenges far more serious than this.
On a lesser note, I have also decided not to take my normal “spring” break Costco run this week. Although we have a number of bulk items that we would like to get, reports from others who went to Anchorage in the past couple of days have stated that the shelves are rather empty. A six hour round trip that might end up with me empty handed does not appeal to me … well, not a lot as I do like the drive. Still, I’m in the mood for their croissants, and I doubt that there’s been a run on those.
