As Alex will be up here for the holidays and also has a December birthday, I let her and Trevor (who also also has a December birthday) choose the set of movies for this year. They decided to be ambitious and tackle the monumental task of watching all of Marvel Phase III. Unlike Phase I and Phase II (which I did in 2012 and 2016) that have six movies in each phase, Phase III encompasses a whopping eleven movies, starting with Captain America: Civil War (I had been wrong earlier in thinking that Civil War was the end of Phase II--even though it really should have been) and ending with Spider-Man: Far from Home (even though I feel that Endgame is a better capstone). This is a two-day job.
I will mention that my offer to start with the first Guardians of the Galaxy as well as include Ant-Man was turned down. We have to have limits, after all. This does make the marathon more of a Spider-Man story arc as it starts with his first MCU appearance and caps with his taking on Tony's mantle.
Anyway, here is the tentative schedule (with five minute breaks between each movie):
Tuesday and Wednesday, December 22 and 23, 2020
11:30 AM - 2:00 PM Captain America: Civil War (2h 27m)
2:05 PM - 4:00 PM Doctor Strange (1h 55m)
4:05 PM - 6:25 PM Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2h 18m)
6:30 PM - 8:45 PM Spider-Man: Homecoming (2h 13m)
8:50 PM - 11:00 PM Thor: Ragnarok (2h 10m)
Sleep
8:15 AM - 10:30 AM Black Panther (2h 15m)
10:35 AM - 1:15 PM Avengers: Infinity War (2h 40m)
1:20 PM - 3:25 PM Ant-Man and the Wasp (2h 5m)
3:30 PM - 5:40 PM Captain Marvel (2h 10m)
5:45 PM - 8:45 PM Avengers: Endgame (3h 1m)
8:50 PM - 11:00 PM Spider-Man: Far from Home (2h 9m)
We have the later start on Tuesday as Alex is arriving late Monday night. Rowen is both excited and concerned that we are ending both sessions at 11 PM, but I think it will turn out fine. In fact, I'm already looking forward to it.
