I saw my new room, learned my upcoming teaching schedule, and met several of my colleagues today. I will be teaching two classes of world history (10th grade), one class of U.S. history (11th grade), two classes of 11th grade English (which focuses on U.S. literature), and one class of 12th grade English (general literature and preparation for college level writing). Although that is six classes with four different preps, I've taught world history, U.S. history, and U.S. literature for quite a few years (just not at this school). My only experience with 12th grade English is one year of teaching AP Lit and Comp (which was a mix of juniors and seniors when I taught it), but I think I can handle it.
My room is a center room with no windows (someone really needs to talk with the people who design schools). It is narrow, but deep. It has the type of student desks that have chairs attached. As of yet, I do not know how its airflow or temperature behave, but I think that fans might be a necessity. Still, I have definitely taught in worse.
I'm not going to start any heavy planning until I get a chance to talk more with the other members of my departments. However, I am glad that my mind now can begin doing some background processing. At least my nightmares will have a clearer vision.
