The hotel’s pool was quite small, but Connor and Rowen loved it all the same. As there were other boys from NYO there, they had a lot of fun. They only had about half an hour of swim time before we needed to head up to the room, dry off, pack up, and check out. It was soon after that when I realized the boys had almost never been to a McDonalds, as neither really knew what they wanted to get for breakfast (we ended up with sausage egg McMuffins, hash browns, and donut sticks).
Connor was in all five events of the day. The first was the Indian stick pull (made to replicate pulling a fish out of the water). Rowen participated too and did fairly well. Connor was able to come away with first place.
The second was the Alaska high kick. Connor got third place with a kick of 54 inches. Rowen spent most of the time playing “everyone’s it” tag. We had more McDonalds for lunch. Connor discovered that he likes Big Macs.
The third event was the arm pull. Rowen did well and won two of his rounds, but did not make the final bracket. Connor won first place in a match so epic that the announcer referenced it at the end of the evening.
Connor did not place in the one foot high kick, but then pulled out a second place finish in the seal hop. This brought Connor’s total for the competition to six medals: one 5th, one 3rd, one 2nd, and three 1sts out of seven events. He’s pretty happy.
The event ended later than was planned. We picked up some Subway sandwiches and I drove home through the snow. As mentioned earlier, the boys used the drive to get some much needed rest.
