The bargaining teams met almost all day today. The day was largely spent talking about the two groups' differing views on the numbers involved. The district's team did not have a proposal to share. The educational staff's team (I like to think of them as "my" team.) presented a proposal similar to the one at the last session but that included language regarding soliciting bids to join larger insurance pools as well as a regular increase to the cap on insurance should negotiations stall out in future contract negotiations. The district's team postponed making a decision on the proposal until it is discussed with the school board at their meeting on Monday (in Homer).
This will put the decision directly into the hands of the board this Monday.
Parents who are supportive of our district's teachers, please contact the school board member for your area (I've attached their contact info) and encourage them to accept "my" team's proposal. Please have your friends who live in the district do the same. Today (September 5th) was the 567th day since negotiations began. Encourage the board to stop the district team's stalling tactics and give our teachers and staff the fair contract that we are requesting.
