Unfortunately, I've seen a disturbing trend recently regarding this phrase. Instead of saying "Never Forget," I'm seeing the bastardizations "We said we'd never forget" or "You said you would never forget." The implication is that people have forgotten, as though anyone could. Worse they are often accompanied by racist messages or photos specifically targeting Muslim citizens and even public officials of our great nation. This insular and bigoted view has marred the sacrifices that were made on that infamous day.
It is disrespectful and unpatriotic to use the tragedy of 9/11 and the phase "Never Forget" as a way to push dividing propaganda. We banded together after 9/11 and put aside our differences in our common outpouring of aid and assistance in that difficult time. We should never forget that.
