The boys have been building forts and playing some sort of elaborate game that involves guns, swords, bows, and invisible armies. Rowen keeps trying to explain his heroic deeds to me at the end of each session, but I haven't really been able to follow the narrative. Sometimes, such as today, we spend our time practicing catching and other more traditional pastimes. More often than not, we end up playing "the ground is lava." Should the weather be pleasant in the morning, and we don't have any visitors in our cabin, we use the outdoor rings and do some running as part of our morning exercises (which I have recently roped Trevor into doing as well--Connor had already joined in a while back and Rowen tends to wander in and out of them depending on his mood).
Sure, we still end up spending the majority of our free time on electronics, but this enforced outside time has been good for us. I believe that it has increased our physical activity and our imaginations. I hope that we will continue this to at least some degree once the school year starts.
On the negative side, there is some bug or something out here that my body does not like. I have not seen the actual culprit nor felt it land (I think), but it leaves behind a small blood spot that makes the surrounding area swell and fiercely itchy. I've only had two such bites this year: one on my leg and the other yesterday on my forearm. The mosquito bites I've experienced have not had anything close to the same reaction. Still, it is a small price to pay for our time outside.
