I was bothered by how much the earlier two seasons of Picard were ignored. Yes, Seven and Raffi are still a part of the show, and there are occasional mentions of events from those seasons, but it felt sort of like the Star Wars Disney trilogy where each director (or season show-runner) decided to take their creation in a completely different direction than the past one. Sure, this season was a direction that I would have preferred from the beginning, but it was still a bit jarring anyway.
I was also surprised how much this show leaned on elements from past Star Trek shows and movies. Even the title credits pull back to the original movies. For that matter, multiple plot elements were pulled directly from The Wrath of Khan, The Undiscovered Country, Generations, and First Contact--so much so that they even used sound effects from those movies to tie the moments more firmly together. Again, as a fan, my nostalgia side loved each bit of it. Still, Strange New Worlds--with its new and vibrantly hopeful take on Star Trek--is the better show due to its willingness to try new things.
All told, I still deeply enjoyed the series, especially this last season, and would like to see it again. More importantly, even though this series has come to an end, I would love it if they developed a new series based on some of the new characters established in this one. #StarTrekLegacy
