However, there have been other areas where procrastination has paid off as well. Most recently, it was not addressing an envelope right after getting a person's address today. Three hours later, I was given a correction to the address that I received.
I was also "rewarded" for holding off on cutting down a number of our beetle-kill trees. It turns out that the people putting in our new septic system will be removing them as part of the project. I would have been quite frustrated if I found that out after having taken them down.
Sometimes, holding off on a response or an action is actually the wisest direction to take. In particular, jumping into situations while missing vital information has dropped me into trouble on more than one occasion. Giving myself time to investigate and think logically is often the better course of action (as long as I don't procrastinate investigating or thinking logically).
So we're clear, I still strive to work against my tendency to procrastinate. There have been a couple of times that procrastination has bitten me--hard--and I would really like to avoid repeating those experiences. It would just be easier to convince myself to not procrastinate if procrastination would stop rewarding me.
