Not only has it been depressing to see all of the snow disappear, but the rain and the near freezing temperatures have made our roads downright treacherous. Instead of washing away the packed snow on the roads, the rain has only condensed the snow into layers of solid ice, with a thin sheen of water to make roads, driveways, and parking lots into ice rinks. The Kenai Peninsula tends not to use salt on the roads because doing so attracts moose to the roadways, but that policy has been changing after a third year of these above freezing winters. However, the best out-of-the-way roads, such as the ones we use to get to our residence, still use sand as their main form of traction (if that).
Today, however, brought the most annoying consequence of this week or so of rain: there's not enough snow for our cross-country ski team to practice outside so they are taking over the crossfit gym for the time being. The coach was tremendously apologetic about this inconvenience and, due to doctor appointments and Janelle's schedule, I could only work out for one day this week anyway, but this is the last straw.
I'm officially done with this rain. It's time to wear the snow sweaters again ...
